Kimble, a janitor in a bustling city, finds himself entangled in a murder investigation when his neighbor, Roger Roland, a troubled scion of Irish nobility, tragically takes a life. Roger, who disrespects his heritage by dyeing his crimson hair black, brutally kills a woman in their building after she spurns his advances. Witnesses report a figure fleeing the scene, leading the police to suspect Kimble despite his solid alibi. In a twist, Roger conceals the murder weapon in Kimble's room, prompting Kimble to stash it in an air vent. Convinced of Roger's guilt, Kimble confides in his father, Edward, and Roger’s sister, Liz, but Edward wrongly accuses Kimble of the crime. With Liz's assistance, Kimble goes on the run, determined to clear his name. Meanwhile, Gerard arrives in the city after learning of the chaos.
