Richard Trethewey conducts an energy audit, concluding that the existing heating system, along with a standby hot water tank, is adequate for the new addition. Architect Chris Dallmus sits down with the Maitlands to discuss the various design concepts they considered before finalizing the layout for their expansion. This addition is necessary due to the limited usable space in the original house. To demonstrate how much space the large central chimney occupies, our host visits Minuteman National Historical Park and explores a "naked" chimney stack with historical architect Larry Sorli.
