The story kicks off with a local farmer, known for his hateful views and bigotry, who stubbornly refuses to offer a fair price for wheat, believing that black farmers should not receive the same rate. Tensions rise when he physically attacks Andy, and things take a darker turn when he is later implicated in the arson of the Garvey family's barn.
