In Walnut Grove, Charles and Hansen establish a new bank, run by the unfeeling Mr. Sprague. Unbeknownst to Laura, she befriends him, unaware of his true nature. Mr. Sprague mistakenly thinks that Charles has sent Laura to convince him to approve a loan for Mr. Ingalls. As Laura's friendship with Sprague deepens, the tension between his greed and her innocence begins to unfold, leading to unexpected consequences for everyone involved.
