George neglects to collect the opera tickets, prompting Louise and Helen to compare him unfavorably to the "thoughtful" Tom. Annoyed by the comparison, George reveals that Tom has purchased an insurance policy, naming a cousin as the beneficiary. He adds that this cousin is a racist who disapproves of Tom and Helen's relationship, further fueling Louise and Helen's irritation with George.
