Disguised as a reporter, James Templeton (Steve Forrest) arrives in Medicine Bow to meet with Judge Garth, a prominent contender for the territorial senate. Betsy Garth quickly develops a crush on James, who seems to excel at everything from horseback riding to marksmanship, raising Trampas's suspicions. As events unfold, Trampas's instincts prove to be accurate.
