Louis dives into the depths of the prison system, encountering a man accused of a triple homicide who is staring down the barrel of a potential death penalty. He also tracks a cohort of about forty young inmates who have managed to escape traditional incarceration by admitting guilt and committing to a four-month military-style boot camp. Among them is a 14-year-old boy at risk of a ten-year sentence for armed robbery if he fails to endure the grueling and harsh training regimen. While many will falter and end up back in prison, a select few may find a renewed shot at life.
