President Richard Nixon arranged for the Watergate burglars to be silenced about their connections to the White House, a move that helped him secure a second term in 1972. However, as the truth started to unfold, Nixon attempted to deflect blame onto others. The discovery that his office conversations were recorded meant that his wrongdoing could no longer remain hidden.
