On September 21, 2001, the teams grapple with their feelings and doubts about being heroes as they put in long hours and dedicate every spare moment to searching through "the pile" for the missing. Kim is back on the job and partners with Doc, enabling an emotionally drained Alex to resume his paramedic duties. Meanwhile, a weary Sully tries to navigate life with his future in-laws while he eagerly awaits the chance to propose to Tatiana.
