In the late 1980s, Florida became a major hub for cocaine trafficking, experiencing some of the highest import levels in the country. Rival factions maintained control through fear, violence, and murder. However, a united front from local law enforcement, the DEA, and the FBI ultimately dismantled the criminal operations and restored order, putting a stop to the bloodshed that plagued the region.
