Megan Smith, a 22-year-old sports scientist, aspires to become a fireman for a steam locomotive on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. Guided by 80-year-old Cedric Lodge, she prepares to stoke the fire in NG143 and embarks on a journey spanning 25 miles from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. Meanwhile, at the Great Central Railway, 155 miles away, the annual Goods Galore Gala is in full swing, inviting visitors to experience the nostalgic atmosphere of various rolling stock along 8 miles of heritage track. We also visit the original lever-operated Signal Box in South Devon with David Bridges and observe Alun Tomlinson and his crew replacing old wooden sleepers with modern lightweight plastic ones on the Ffestiniog line.
