Jan de Lichte is forcibly brought back to his hometown, facing accusations of murder and desertion. Upon his return, he is struck by how much has transformed. The town's destitute residents are often marked, mistreated, and exiled, yet they have banded together in the woods. It is here that Jan reconnects with his loved ones and finds solace amidst the turmoil.
